Making The Poker Timer more accessible for deaf and hard-of-hearing players
This one came from a host who runs regular poker games for deaf and hard-of-hearing players. Now the whole screen can flash at the end of each level, so a level ending and the blinds going up is something you can see, not just hear. Off by default. Turn it on in Preferences.
What's new
At the end of each level, The Poker Timer can now flash the whole screen, alongside the usual spoken announcement. It's a clear visual signal that the level has ended and the blinds are about to go up, so nobody has to be listening to catch it.
How to use it
Open Preferences and turn on "Flash screen at level end." From then on, the whole screen flashes each time a level ends. It's off by default, so you turn it on only if you want it.
Why it matters
A spoken "blinds are up" only helps the players who can hear it. One of our hosts runs games for deaf and hard-of-hearing players, and told us those players were relying on someone at the table to pass the word along each time a level ended. A flash they can see from anywhere in the room lets them follow the game on their own. It helps in loud, crowded venues too, but this came from a real need at a real table, and that is who we built it for.
